Join Gorge Waterway Action Society on August 30, 2025, for Let's Get Quizzical, a full afternoon of community science, trivia, and food truck fun! Explore the Gorge Waterway’s biodiversity through our Bioblitz, show off your smarts in Sustainable Trivia, and enjoy family-friendly activities and lawn games by the salt marsh.
While the event is free for all to attend, there will be opportunities to make a donation to our fund for much-needed Nature House improvements. 🏡🔨
Schedule:
Taking place from 11am to 5pm at Esquimalt Gorge Park, we are hosting a day of trivia, iNaturalist, food, and fun! Throughout the day, play lawn games and stop by the kids' activity stations in between the trivia and nature walks! Grab a tasty treat from Hazel's Ice Cream and a delicious meal provided by other local food trucks.
11:00am - Opening & Welcome; food trucks open, crafts and activity stations begin
11:30am - Bioblitz: Plant Walk
Engage with local biodiversity! Help local naturalists, community scientists, and GWAS staff catalogue the local flora and fauna of the Gorge Waterway ecosystems using iNaturalist. Bring your smartphone. No experience necessary!
12:30pm - Round 1 of Sustainable Smarts: SDG Trivia Competition
The “Sustainable Smarts” Trivia Competition will feature three rounds, each based on the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 13 - Climate Action 🌎, SDG 14 - Life Below Water 🐟, and SDG 15 - Life on Land 🌲. By connecting these themes to pop culture, local ecosystems and geographical features, we created a trivia game that challenges and engages both kids and adults.
With a maximum of five people on a team, a donation of $2 per person is encouraged to enter and compete for amazing prizes, including gift cards to HAVN Saunas, II Terrazzo, Quazar’s Arcade, Axe + Grind, Quest Reality Games, and more!
Test your sustainability knowledge for a chance to win!
