How to Exist on Stage: The Fundamentals
With Bronwyn MacLeod (Bronky)
Step into your power as a performer in this foundational workshop led by Bronwyn (Bronky) - a multidisciplinary artist with over a decade of experience in theatre, circus, and dance. She carries a BA in Contemporary Performance Practice from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, as well as years of training at the Island Circus Space in Victoria. She can often be seen on stage at local electronic music shows and festivals, or with her troupe Morphaces. She is also the curator and host of the local Curio Cabaret - a variety show that focuses on unique forms of expression.
Join us on August 3rd, from 12-2pm at 1923 Fernwood Rd for this inaugural workshop with Bronky. During the session, we will be exploring the foundations of how to present authentically and captivatingly on stage. The skills and practices we will be examining are useful for performers at any stage of their journey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. These skills are also useful to performers of any style and genre, including but not limited to: dance, flow arts, aerials and acrobatics, theatre, and much more.
We will be focusing on two main areas:
Movement and bodily awareness:
How do we move with intention, patience, and authenticity on stage? What methods can we use to tap into our body’s natural rhythms and motions to convey story, depth, emotion, and persona on stage? You do not need to be a trained dancer, nor able bodied, in order to convey messages through movement. In this segment of the workshop we will focus on tapping into this realm regardless of your background.
Presence:
Stage presence. Mindfulness. Being “Dropped In”. This is what engages the audience and makes a performer captivating, regardless of what they’re doing on stage. A performer without presence can often feel empty or robotic. Your presence is a form of authenticity, and is unique to you. In this segment of the workshop, we will focus on grounding and dropping in, to significantly enhance your presence on stage.
Please join me for this new workshop! I can’t wait to work with you. Please come in comfortable movement attire, and bring water and a notebook if you desire.
August 3rd, 12-2pm at the Paul Phillips Hall (1923 Fernwood).
