KT Boundary hike

Join Certified Interpretive Guide Steve Kaverman for a short, easy walk along the Long’s Canyon Trail to the K-T Boundary. The K–T Boundary (now more accurately called the Cretaceous–Paleogene or K–Pg Boundary) marks a major episode in Earth's history that happened approximately 66 million years ago. This unique spot in the park precisely marks one of the most significant extinction events on our planet. A point in time when about 75% of all species on earth became extinct, including nearly all dinosaurs. Here in Trinidad Lake State Park, a readily visible, thin layer of sediment marks the K-Pg boundary. Like a snapshot, it records a sudden global catastrophe when one period of Earth history ended and another began. Join us and see this fascinating spot for yourself.
