Legendary Mary Caffrey, Bill Birks & Charlie Bishop together!
Formed in 2000 to commemorate the 30 anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix. The band went on to play regularly in South ~West Uk and Japan and Texas. Playing Hendrix, Free, Cream, Santana and more of the songs we love!
Mary Caffrey bass and vocals.
Mary’s experience on percussion and classical guitar stood her in good stead when she took up bass nearly twenty five years ago. Having played with artists such as Chris Jagger, Mary used her knowledge of rhythm to provide a tight, “in the pocket” groove on bass, justifiably earning her the nickname Rock Steady Mary.
Charlie Bishop drums
Having lived in India as a child, Charlie embraced the rhythmic traditions of the country as a small boy, and upon his return to the UK, continued his love of drums, which lead to his playing on an album, recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World, with drum legend Billy Cobham.
Bill Birks Guitar and Vocals.
Canadian Bill Birks was a session musician / sound engineer for most of the 70s and 80s, working with major bands such as The Korgis, The Cure, and John Martyn.
Transferring from drums to guitar and bass in the early 80s, following a major motorbike accident, Bill was signed to CBS and released two albums for the label as well as providing the theme tune to the Warner Brothers film Radio Powerplay, and the accompanying soundtrack album, alongside The Eagles, Little Feat, and others.
Bill formed Cat in the Hat Band with Mary Caffrey in 2000, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix, as a one off gig.
Such was the audience response, Bill and Mary decided to continue, playing in America, Japan, Europe and the UK and now concentrate, (thanks to Brexit) on festival and club gigs in the UK.
