The "Sturgeon Moon" is the nickname for the full moon that occurs in August. It gets its name from the sturgeon fish, which were traditionally caught in abundance in the Great Lakes and other North American lakes during this time of year. The name is attributed to Native American tribes who relied on these fish as a food source.
