(3 30 PM to 5 30 PM on each day - 19, 20 and 21 Sep)
It’s not uncommon to feel creatively stuck when navigating the vast, complex and rich realms of Carnatic music. Learning compositions is one journey, but using them as springboards for deeper exploration and enhancing Manodharma (creativity) is quite another.
Enter Varnams.
Often dismissed as a beginner’s exercise, the Varnam is, in reality, one of the most profound and essential forms in Carnatic music. It carries the very DNA of a raga, preserving it with remarkable precision over time. Varnams also serve as living historical records, capturing the artistic imprints of musicians across generations. They are invaluable keys to understanding some of the most complex and richly textured Ragas in Carnatic Music.
This immersive experience is designed for students and practitioners of Carnatic music—vocalists and instrumentalists alike—who are eager to explore the creative and expressive potential of Varnams in greater depth.
In addition to exploring these rich layers, this workshop will also feature a fun, hands-on DIY segment where participants will get to compose their own little Varnams.
