Harold Smith is primarily a self taught artist whose practice includes painting, collage, video, assemblage, and writing. His work ventures into many facets of Black experience, exploring subjects like community, aging, masculinity, and resilience. In the new series featured in the exhibition "Around the Way Folk: Saints in Uncommon Places," he recreates classic works from art history, inserting Black protagonists into their iconic compositions.
