Furniture Making 101 - 4 Week Course

Master some of the core aspects of furniture making, as you craft a simple, robust and beautiful hardwood stool.

This 4-week class takes students through the complete process of creating a piece of furniture. Starting with rough lumber, we’ll cover what to look for and how to select wood for your project. In the woodshop, students will gain advanced skills in project planning and you will use nearly every machine in the shop including the table saw, chop saw, bandsaw, drill press, and routers to create the joinery. At completion, students will not only have built their very own stool, but also have the skills and confidence to begin their own journey in furniture making.

This class is designed for students who have some woodworking experience already and want to take the plunge into finer solid wood furniture making. This is a technical project that is not for the absolute beginner. We will be cutting angles, and bevels on the table saw.

All students will be making the same classic wood stool using Poplar wood. You will have the option to upgrade to other wood choices during the registration process.

Three sessions (6 hours) of shop time is required between classes on Saturdays from 10am-12pm. This is the only time reserved for the Furniture Making class students. If you cannot attend on Saturday or need to book additional hours, you will need to book time via our general shop calendar at www.diycave.com/wood-calendar at normal shop rates ($12/hour for Members, $24/hour for Non-Members).

All materials, design drawings, measurements and tools included. Feel free to bring your favorite tape measure and pencil, or we will provide them for you.
