Worlds collide as the Auckland Philharmonia takes you Behind the Scenes at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Join us for a day of global superstars and guitar serenades as we tour the Museum’s latest exhibition DIVA and join JIJI for a classical guitar masterclass.
Starting our day at the Museum, the DIVA exhibition showcases a dazzling celebration of the artists who have captivated audiences around the world, driven change, and redefined culture. This spectacular international exhibition comes exclusively to Auckland Museum from the V&A in London. Featuring over 280 objects, including show-stopping costumes, fashion, photography, and music, DIVA explores the power, ambition, and artistry of some of the most legendary performers in history.
Following light refreshments in the Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café (not included in ticket price), we will head down to the Central City Library for the Masterclass with visiting artist, JIJI. The Auckland Philharmonia's visiting international artists are some of the finest musicians in the world, and our masterclass series gives students invaluable access to their expertise, encouragement and advice. It is an excellent opportunity for University of Auckland School of Music students to showcase some of what they have been working on, and to receive mentorship on this work in return. JIJI is Associate Professor of Music in guitar at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She has presented masterclasses and workshops at the Peabody Institute, Eastman School of Music and Yale, among others.
