Join us for another electrifying edition of the Monday Night Jazz Session for the return of the legendary Alvon Johnson, whose dynamic vocals and guitar prowess have graced big band stages around the globe, joined by the masterful Leon Joyce Jr. on drums, Grammy Award–winning pianist Glen Pearson, and Constantine on bass.
Alvon Johnson is celebrated as one of the most versatile singers and entertainers today, seamlessly blending swinging jazz standards and soulful blues—his résumé includes fronting big bands worldwide and sharing stages with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group The Coasters. On bass, Constantine draws on a degree in modern theory and harmony and jazz studies from Nakas Conservatory in Greece, bringing both studio polish and live-performance grit from his co-writing and multi-album tours with Heritage. Leon Joyce Jr.’s drumming fuses the discipline of a former Marine Corps Drum Major with festival-headline credentials alongside icons like Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, and Mary Wilson. And anchoring the quartet, Glen Pearson lends his signature Basie-inspired touch—his work with the Count Basie Orchestra not only earned a Grammy for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album but also cements his reputation as a first-call pianist and educator.
Behind the scenes, the Session owes its magic to producer, host and long-time local musician David Sturdevant. David quietly shapes each evening with a meticulous ear and genuine passion for bringing people together. His modest approach seamlessly blends Bay Area veterans with emerging talents, reaffirming his belief that music heals and that uniting young and old—on stage and in the audience—is where the true magic of music comes alive.
As always, the set will be followed by an open mic sign-up, offering an opportunity for emerging talents to take the stage.
