Breathe: An Evening of Peaceful Music and Collective Calm with Hazel Basil

August 24, 7:00pm Doors/ 7:30pm Music

In a world that often demands constant motion, Hazel Basil offers a gentle pause. Known for her genre-blurring sound and thoughtful presence, Hazel creates spaces where music becomes a vehicle for healing, reflection, and solidarity. As part of her Pay It Forward residency with CitySpace, Hazel Basil presents Breathe, a meditative performance experience blending original folk music, ambient soundscapes, and guided reflection. Designed to nurture self-compassion and inner calm, the evening invites audience members to slow down, listen deeply, and connect with themselves and each other.

Hazel Basil is a multi-genre musician based in Amherst, MA. From the age of five, when she first touched piano keys, Hazel was captivated by the emotional language of music. Coming out as transgender in 2022 marked a pivotal moment in her life and artistry โ€” unlocking a deep well of love for herself, her community, and the power of shared sound.

Hazelโ€™s songs are rooted in vulnerability and strength, and are shaped by the barriers she has overcome to share her voice authentically. Her debut album Herbs and Grains is available on all major platforms, with two more albums currently in development. She has performed at venues across New England, including the Parlor Room, Iron Horse, and the Academy of Music, fostering spaces of solidarity and musical healing.

The Pay it Forward program is generously funded by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, Greenfield Savings Bank, Tandem Bagels, Applied Mortgage, Boston Rare Maps, Greenfield Cooperative Bank and Northampton Cooperative Bank, Massachusetts Cultural Council, and Individual Donors.
