On August 3, 1933, a devastating event occurred when Castlewood Dam failed, releasing a staggering 1.7 billion gallons of water into Denver, causing widespread destruction and chaos throughout the city. The impact of this disaster was felt for years to come, and it's a significant occasion that still resonates with the community today. To commemorate this pivotal moment in history, Castlewood Canyon State Park is hosting Dam Day, an event that promises to be an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
The event features a range of activities that cater to all ages and interests, including A Dam Good Lunch to support Friends of Castlewood Canyon State Park, guided hikes to the Dam that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and historic character portrayals sharing personal accounts of the Dam's failure that will leave you moved and inspired. We will also have many activities set up in the event facility for all ages to enjoy.
As always we will have live music, and NEW this year we will be having a CAR SHOW.
Please note that a valid Colorado State Parks pass is required for attendance, or your Keep Colorado Pass located on your registration. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to learn, explore, and have fun with family and friends while paying tribute to a pivotal moment in Denver's history!
