For this special series of classes we are offering to Rework, Re-use & Upcycle your garments, home goods & thrifted items. This block printing party will be a chance to learn block printing & also block print items you bring to class- adding fun tomatoes to a tea towel, adding fun animals and shapes to beat up t shirts to give them new life, adding some fun coffee & croissants to a pair of linen pants or covering your favorite dress in cats. You will have access to our stamps from our stamp library and have time to carve up something quick yourself if you like (can just use ours if you like too). Please for this special version of this class, bring your own items to print from home. Cotton, linen, poly cotton are all great. Stay away from anything shiny, slippery, all poly or etc.
Block printing is one of the oldest forms of printmaking. It offers a relatively simple method for creating your own graphics and patterns, and only requires a handful of simple and accessible tools and supplies to produce your own prints. In this class you will figure out a design, then learn to transfer it to a Speedy Carve block to produce your own block. Next, you will learn printing on paper and textiles with your own stamp and some of ours if you like! Each student will make one medium stamp and print cards, paper, a bandana and a tote bag. The stamp is yours to take home. Tools are not included to take home but you are welcome to buy tools after class from us or at Artist & Craftsmen if you found a new hobby you love!
*If you are taking additional classes over our Re-purpose, Re-use Week- We encourage folks to take multiple classes and layer techniques. Students who sign up for 2 classes over the special week of upcycling classes will get a gift certificate for $10, take 3 of our classes in the series and get a $20 gift certificate.
