Join us at Olive's on Main (5629 Main St.) for downtown Sylvania's monthly poetry slam as part of Red Bird Sylvania's First Friday events!
To participate in the slam, bring three of your best original poems (max. 3 minutes per poem); sign-up begins at 5:30 p.m. The slam starts at 6 p.m.
A poetry slam is a friendly and fun competition. Volunteers from the audience will be the poetry slam judges! No experience necessary.
**There will be prizes!**
***Featured reader for August: Mike Hackney.***
Hackney has recently penned the poetry for The Unforgivable Gossamer Sadness, a poetry and rock opera (coauthored with music by Scott Fish). He has published three books: The Downtown (poems, 2011), Midwestern Shoes--Your Poetic Self All Over Again (a field guide of essays and critical approaches to poetry, 2007), and Learning to Write (poems, 2003, in collaboration with George Schmidt).
