Throughout the years, Leon has remained a steadfast presence in our kitchen through both prosperous times and great challenges, including the recent global pandemic. More than just a chef, he has been a true pillar of the community—generous with his time, resources, and heart.
Leon and Jenny have consistently supported local initiatives: opening their doors to hospitality work experience students from Gulgong High School, employing countless young locals looking for a start, and donating to charitable events whenever asked. Their unwavering promise to keep meals hearty and affordable—even as the cost of living rose—demonstrates the value they placed on their customers and the community.
Many may not know that Leon and Jenny’s home is in Penrith. For nearly two decades, Leon has spent his weeks in Gulgong—Wednesday to Sunday—before returning home to Penrith from Sunday night to Wednesday morning. This commitment is nothing short of extraordinary. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Leon and Jenny chose to stay in Gulgong throughout the lockdowns, separated from their family and friends in Western Sydney. They were deeply moved by the love and kindness shown by the Gulgong community during that time, which made them feel truly at home.
We wish them all the very best and enjoy a well-earned retirement, and may this next chapter bring you plenty of time with your grandchildren and your ever-growing family. You will be dearly missed.
