Exploring Northolt - Of Ponies and Poles
Advertisement
A stroll around the northern part of Northolt remembering the racecourse that was, the airmen who were and seeing what is here now
Join our third free walk this year and the second in Northolt , to explore another part of the borough, in collaboration with GOSaD - Golden Opportunity Skills and Development is an Ealing -based charity focused on building a vibrant and equal society.
It is not a pub crawl but we will start at one and end at another! So, starting at the Harvester Mandeville Arms ( just outside if the weather is fine, otherwise inside), we will venture into what was Northolt Racecourse , one of the finest in the country in the 1930s but then lapsed, abandoned and eventually largely built over to form the Racecourse Estate . Having talked about it and seen a bit, we will cross back over the main road and head west past Wood End Wireless Station to St Barnabas Church and then Oldfield Circus .
We then have our optional chill and chat drawn out finish at the Weatherspoon's Greenwood Hotel where they have photos of the racecourse in its heyday and the Polish pilots who flew and fought with us during the Second World War.
On the way, as always, we hear about the changes in the area and share our observations whilst getting to know more about those who are with us, old acquaintances and new.
A few more things:
Pictures are taken during our walks and some of the walk may be recorded so please let us know if you do not want to be included.
As it is a walking tour, please make sure you wear suitable footwear and clothing.
You take part in our events at your own risk although we take all the precautions to assess the route prior to the walks.
If you can no longer attend please cancel your ticket or notify us so we could offer your place to someone else.
Please email us if you have any questions regarding the walk and check your mailbox before the walk.
