Bobbie Lancaster, Anthony Mullis and Derek Chastain will come together at Gobin Church this Wednesday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. for a showcase of local talent at the Greencastle Summer Music Festival.
The trio will be joined by fellows Bryan Langdoc and Haley McGinnis in what promises to be an uplifting performance highlighting the work and passion of local singer-songwriters. Each of them is active in the community and strives to bring people together through music.
“As a local songwriter, it’s been an honor to be part of the journey,” said Bobbie, who is a familiar presence at the festival. “It’s a joy to share my music with the community and to share the evening with Anthony and Derek.”
“Bobbie, Anthony and Derek are each amazing creative and performing artists who are a central part of singer-songwriters who make Putnam County’s musical life so rich,” GSMF Artistic Director Eric Edberg related. “I’m thrilled they are performing for us this week.”
The GSMF’s free programs are a gift to the community from individual donors, Doc and The Dandelion: Your Local Bed and Breakfasts and an endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation. As its major sponsor, The Inn at DePauw hosts the festival’s out-of-town guest artists. Audience members are invited after the performances to The Fluttering Duck, which is located at the Inn and serves until 10 p.m.
For those unable to attend in person, the performances are livestreamed on the GSMF’s YouTube page at gsmfvideo.com.
About the performers:
Bobbie Lancaster’s artistry has spanned over 20 years and across multiple genres, including folk, children’s tunes and music that she says helps others connect to the Divine. She has been a featured songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and other such events over the years, and she has also found joy in providing healing music in jails, hospitals and shelters and at bedsides. Anticipated to be released later this year, she is recording her 10th studio album, with Langdoc and McGinnis making up Bobbie Lancaster and The Wild Mercy.
Anthony Mullis has been writing and performing songs since his teenage years. He says there was a time when he set up amps and drums in a large barn on the farm where he grew up and captured songs on a 4-track tape recorder, utilizing the cab of a John Deere combine as a vocal booth. Thirty years later, the venue has changed but the game is the same. He has recorded three albums under the moniker Gus Moon and is now working on a fourth, which is set for release in October.
Derek Chastain brings a broad music approach that touches on different genres. He is involved with several projects, including Derek Chastain & The Dimrill Bards, a string folk group; DĀBRK, an experimental indie rock band; and The Kinnemens, a Celtic group with a focus on traditional and celebratory music. He hosts four open mic nights throughout Central Indiana, providing spaces for local musicians to share their music. He also hosts The Local Bards, a showcase in Greencastle that brings together fellow artists and fosters community.
