July "Artist of the Month" / Jim Hoffman

The Millersburg Area Art Association is pleased to announce that MAAA member Jim Hoffman is the Featured Artist for the Month of July at the Gallery on the Square.

Jim always enjoyed drawing and was encouraged by his high school art teacher, Miss Berg. He has had no training and enjoys drawing and painting for his own satisfaction.

Except for a few pieces he drew or painted for friends and family, Jim has kept all the art he created.

He started drawing and painting on a greater scale after returning from Alaska when he retired seven years ago. The cow moose and her two young is the first piece he created.

Jim has been blessed to be able to travel and take photos of God’s creations, and man’s as well, from which he has created his artwork. He especially likes drawing animals, as you can see by some of the pieces on display at the Gallery.

When Jim wishes to see more detail in the subject he is drawing, he uses colored pencils. When he wants a lot of bright colors, he paints with acrylics. He feels they are easier to use and dry quickly, although he hasn’t tried oil paints.

If you ask Jim to draw something without seeing it, he cannot do it as well. He needs to see it to put it on paper or canvas. Painting and drawing are his enjoyment, hobby and satisfaction. If you are not already an artist, Jim recommends you jump in and do it for yourself. Who knows where it will take you!

Jim currently resides in Lenkerville, Upper Paxton Township and has lived in Lenkerville and Millersburg all his life.
