Itโs August! Join STF for the second half of our HISTORICAL BOUNDARY WALK as we celebrate our local area and traditions with this custom dating back to the Anglo Saxon ages.
'Beating the Bounds' is the practice of getting together to walk the boundary of the parish or village. This was an important way of ensuring local folks had an accurate mental map of their area, preventing disputes around entitlement to shared land and resources, and making sure boundaries were not encroached on by neighbouring settlements. This month we'll complete our recreation of the 1872 St James Moorside parish boundary walk with the West half of the route, with maps, explanations, and historical interest materials provided along the way. ๐คธโโ๏ธ๐ฒ๐บ๐๐๐๐ณ๐ป๐ถ๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ผ
Weโre also delighted to announce the return of our popular FREE POST-STROLL LUNCH, now provided by lovely local and new STF member Sy-Frys! Sy will be serving up his delicious burgers and sausage and bacon butties, and will have an extra veggie/halal option just for us, so make sure not to miss out! RSVP to secure your lunch now!!
We will be meeting outside the Community Centre entrance at 1pm as usual, but as the route is long youโre also welcome to join on or drop off along the way if youโd prefer a shorter walk - join our Sunday Stroll Whatsapp group and message there to find out our exact location when you'd like to join on the day.
Dogs on leads are welcome. We are a warm and friendly group and members support each other along Sunday Stroll routes, but we cannot take liability for walkersโ wellbeing - please ensure you have appropriate clothing and footwear, and are confident the route is suited to your abilities ๐
Bring along any drinks or snacks youโd like, and donโt forget your camera ๐ธ
RSVP here or email us at sholvertravelfutures [@] gmail.com to book your place and for more info on how to get involved ๐๐ฉ๐๏ธโ๏ธ we canโt wait to walk with you!
