Finding Folklore in Burial Grounds

Join Claire Slack for an exploration of the folklore you might find in your local burial grounds. In this talk, we'll explore historic and contemporary mourning traditions, the symbolism behind the carvings on headstones and the folklore of the plants and trees that you might find in burial grounds across Britain. This talk will mostly focus on the Victorian burial ground, drawing on Claire's knowledge of garden cemeteries but will include earlier examples of different types of burial grounds from the medieval period onwards.
