Join Mainspring and leading mural artist Jacqueline VanRavenhorst in the initial painting of the Mainspring Community Mural!
Community Paint Session Dates & Times:
Sun, Aug 17, 1-4 pm
Mon, Aug 18, 10 am - 12 pm & 4-7 pm
Tue, Aug 19, 4-7 pm
Through this Mainspring Community Art Project, the goal is to create a more welcoming, vibrant gateway to Caledonia’s Main Street, as the building anchors the east end of the downtown district. Mainspring currently has a smaller mural that acts as the building’s signage on street level, created by local artist Jacqueline VanRavenhorst in 2022. This complementary designed mural will enhance the building’s Main Street facade on its high steeple. By enhancing Mainspring’s exterior space, it will be more recognizable as a community arts space instead of a church, improve downtown placemaking vibrancy, and be more visible from central downtown.
VanRavenhorst has gathered community input throughout spring and summer 2025 that will be incorporated into the final design of the mural. VanRavenhorst will lead community members in helping with the under-painting of the mural, before she will finalize the over-painting and sealing of mural before installation.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the MN State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
