Workshop: Foundation Piecing a Miniature Log Cabin Block by Amy Pabst
Advertisement
This workshop is for intermediate- advanced sewers only.
In this class, students will learn the technique of foundation piecing. The miniature Log Cabin blocks will finish at 3β with strips of 1β4β. Donβt be intimidated by the small scale; Students always report that it was much easier than they thought it would be. The class also includes information about printers/papers/other specialty materials, and Electric Quilt software. There is also discussion about quilting/finishing techniques that work well with this size of blocks. Class length is approximately 3 hours.
Students must bring the following supplies:
β’ Sewing machine
β’ Basic sewing supplies
β’ Schmetz Microtex needles work well, but any small needle (size 11 or 10 )
β’ Lightweight cotton thread that blends with your fabrics (50 weight or finer)
β’ 8-10 WOF strips, 1β wide, sorted into lights and darks. Small scale prints, tone on tones, and solids work especially well
β’ Think about using a contrasting fabric for the very center of your squares. Bright colors work well here, and only a small amount is needed.
β’ Open-toe foot
β’ Rotary cutter/ruler
β’ Optional: mini iron and pressing mat
NOTE: Foundations will be supplied. The product prefered is Foundation Stuff by George Siciliano, plenty of sample patterns will be provided.
