Join us for a two-part literary and ecological experience with Charlotte Fryar Taylor, author of Potomac Fever: Reflections on the Nation’s River.

On Friday evening, Fryar Taylor will be in conversation at Four Seasons Books to discuss her moving and deeply researched work, part memoir, part historical reckoning, as she retraces the length of the Potomac River to understand how the land, water, and neighborhoods of Washington, D.C. reflect the enduring legacies of colonization, white supremacy, and environmental injustice.

On Saturday morning, continue the journey with Charlotte Fryar Taylor during a guided nature walk along the C&O Canal Towpath in Shepherdstown. We’ll explore the Potomac’s ecological landscape together and reflect on the themes of place-based ethics and environmental storytelling that run through her book.
Whether you're passionate about history, environmental justice, or poetic, place-rooted nonfiction, this is a weekend not to miss.

About the Book: Potomac FeverAs she walks the length of the Potomac River, clambering up its banks and sounding its depths, Charlotte Taylor Fryar examines the geography and ecology of Washington, D.C. with all manner of flora and fauna as her witness. Her true subject, though, is the origin of our fractured nation and racially divided capital.

From gentrified neighborhoods to the grounds of Mount Vernon, Potomac Fever guides us along D.C.’s less-traveled trails to confront the myths we live by, and to ask how we might build a future rooted in the values of the land itself.

Friday’s event is free to attend. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Saturday’s nature walk is also free, but space is limited—please RSVP.
