Sea Turtle Nest Excavation

Join staff from Ecological Associates Inc. and Florida Oceanographic Society to watch a loggerhead sea turtle nest excavation.
Nests are excavated a few days after their hatch date to collect data. Biologists count how many eggs were laid, how many hatched, and release any hatchlings found in the nest (viewing hatchlings is not guaranteed and depends on whether any remain in the nest at time of excavation, if time allows, and/or conditions are favorable).
Free admission. All ages welcome. No tickets or registration required.
Event takes place just south of Jensen Public Beach (get on the beach at the southernmost lifeguard tower then walk south until you see our team). We recommend parking in the lot at the far south end of Jensen Beach.
You will be walking in the sand and may be on the beach for at least a half hour or more. We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, and a hat. ☀️
All activities are performed by permitted biologists under MTP 25-010.
