To launch a new community project 'The Ripple Effect', addressing fast-fashion and climate change, we're showing the documentary film which inspired it all 'Ocean with David Attenborough'. This film is rated PG, young people are welcome to attend.

David Attenborough takes viewers on a breath taking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing.

This is our first film showing at St. Martin's Church in Alfreton (we usually show films at Somercotes Village Hall), we encourage you to bring a cushion to aid comfort when sitting on church pews! We will have an interval to relieve any aches and allow you to stretch your legs. There will be drinks and snacks available to buy completing the cinema experience.

The Ripple Effect is a new creative community project making a one of a kind ocean themed dress using only repurposed materials in beautiful, sea inspired colours. This piece will be more than a garment it will be a symbol of community, change, collaboration and care for our planet.

Just like a single drop can send ripples across the surface of the sea, small acts of creativity and connection can build something far reaching and meaningful. This dress will be created using only second-hand materials and in collaboration with local creatives and the community each bringing their own unique touch to the process. Whether it’s stitching, dyeing, embellishing, printing or donating materials everyone involved will leave their mark just as the ocean leaves its mark on us all.

The project will culminate in a fashion show early 2026 where the dress will be unveiled, celebrating not only the final creation but also the community and values behind it. Workshops will begin Autumn 2025, if you would like to be involved please come along or get in touch.

Access information: There is free parking near the church, if you are disabled you may park near the church displaying a blue badge. There is a wheelchair ramp for the church, there is space for wheelchairs inside or for people to transfer out of their chair to a pew. This film unfortunately does not have subtitles. There is one toilet facility within the church.
