Sam Lee + Spafford Campbell - Songdreaming

Mercury prize nominated folk singer and arranger Sam Lee will perform songs from his compelling and emotional new album ‘songdreaming.’ This is his fourth album; it was named album of the month by Mojo magazine, and The Guardian gave it five stars, describing it as ““A moving tribute to Albion’s troubled soul.” Sam’s fresh and inventive approach to British folk song blends traditional and contemporary perspectives, and this album shows him continuing to break new ground.

The natural world is at the centre of his songs, as Sam revives a tradition of connecting with the land through song, with roots throughout the British Isles. He tints his arrangements with influences ranging from gospel to electronic drones, to express “a mosaic of the emotions felt in my time outdoors, that artistically emerge in reflective moments.”

Sam’s varied musical activities include composing film soundtracks and broadcasting on TV and radio. In 2021, he released his debut novel ‘The Nightingale, notes on a songbird,’ telling the epic tale of this highly endangered bird and its place in culture and folklore throughout the millennia. As a change-maker in the music industry, he is a co-founder of Music Declares Emergency, Featured Artists Coalition board member, and works with leading environmental charity Earthpercent.

“A sublime album that demands to be heard in the 21st century” – The Daily Telegraph

“We’ve seen Sam Lee progress from wunderkind singer and song collector to a respected spokesperson of the planet, its custodians (of all species) and its sounds, while his music becomes ever more beguiling and important. A folk voice for the England of the 21st century.” – Songlines

Spafford Campbell

Fiddle player Owen Spafford and guitarist Louis Campbell perform music from their reflective new album Tomorrow Held, blending post-rock, jazz, chamber classical, and folk. Expect ambient loops, processed fiddle, and experimental soundscapes.
