Tudor Day with the Mary Rose returns to Southsea Castle this summer, where there'll be lots on offer for families to enjoy.
There will be exclusive talks by the Mary Rose Museum in the keep for a fascinating look into the Cowdray Engraving depicting one of the most dramatic moments in Tudor naval history – the Battle of the Solent and the sinking of the Mary Rose.
The talks will last about 30 minutes, discover the story of the Mary Rose; built, sunk, and raised in Portsmouth. Then, head up to the castle battlements to view where she sank beneath the waves in battle against the French — within sight of the king himself.
The talks will be at 10.30am, 11.15am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. It is £10 per adult, £5 per child or a family ticket for £20 which covers 6 people.
All proceeds from sales of the talks go towards the ongoing conservation of the Mary Rose to support future generations.
As well as this, there are plenty of free activities talking place, including:
Meet King Henry VIII and other terrific Tudors, and learn more about the King during Henry’s Horrid History Show (10am, 11.30am, 2pm).
There will also be a chance to handle real and replica Tudor objects, have a go at archery, hook a Tudor duck and more!
These activities are free, but there is a suggested donation of £1 per person.
