While VE Day (Victory in Europe) marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in fighting in the Far East.
Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on 15th August 1945, which ended the Second World War. This year will be the 80th anniversary.
To commemorate this, Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council will be hosting a VJ Day 80 event in Wolverton Square. There will be live entertainment from vintage singer Lily Taylor Ward. In addition, there will also be a ceremony, with support from Churches Together and local cadet groups. Plus, Gurka Streetfood and refreshments will also be present.
We would also like to ask residents, if you would like to share with us any stories or written material relating to the Far East and VJ, to help contribute to the event. Please get in touch by emailing the Town Council office on b2ZmaWNlIHwgd29sdmVydG9uYW5kZ3JlZW5sZXlzdG93bmNvdW5jaWwgISBnb3YgISB1aw==.
