Slate Valley Wonder Studies - Nature Program for Kids

Join us for the first session of our new free biweekly program for kids ages 7-12 that encourages them to observe the wonders of the natural world right in the Slate Valley!

Slate Valley Wonder Studies offer children experiences with nature that help train their eyes and mind to see and understand the common things in life. Kids take part in a short walk to collect and examine some common objects found in nature. This sparks their interest and curiosity about the living things that they encounter outdoors, leading to a sense of wonder about the beauty of nature.

The program is free for all kids (ages 7-12). Space is limited so please call 518-642-1417 or email Ashley at YXNobGV5IHwgc2xhdGV2YWxsZXltdXNldW0gISBvcmc= to register.

It’s a drop-off program, but parents are encouraged to stay and visit the museum (for FREE) to explore its exhibits while their children take part in the program.

Slate Valley Wonder Studies will take place biweekly on Wednesdays from 2-3pm on the following dates this summer: July 9; July 23; August 6, August 20.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM LEADERS

Dr. Tom Woods has a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Cornell University. His career was spent working in the Agricultural Chemicals industry. He is retired but works as a part-time consultant for a company involved in wood preservation. He is an accomplished microscopist and woodworker. He is married to Alice (Callaway) Woods and they have two children and three grandchildren.

Ms. Alice Woods has a master’s degree in plant pathology from the University of Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Mr. George H. Callaway, who was a prominent Washington County arborist for many years. Alice's interest in science and natural history was stimulated and encouraged by her father, who first introduced her to the wonders of the critters and microorganisms living in the pond water of the farm where she grew up.
