Art History Illustrated, Imaging the End Times: The Iconography of the Last Judgment

Artists throughout the Christian era were fascinated and inspired by the scriptural description of The Last Judgment, and pictured the chaos of the Revelation in glorious and terrifying works of art. They used every conceivable visual effect to represent the glory of the Heavenly Jerusalem, a city made of crystal, gold, and gemstones, as well as the fires of Hell, a horrifying pit, often with a monstrous mouth as its entrance, echoing with the screams of the suffering. This program is intended for adults.

Join us for our “Art History Illustrated” talk series, held the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. This monthly illustrated talk series is presented by art historian Brenda Edgar, in collaboration with The Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center.
