Come experience the vast and rich culture of Mexican music when Bola Suriana returns to Denmark celebrating their 35th anniversary. Through their music they invite the listener on a journey through the traditional and popular music from Mexico and Latin America, especially music from the mestiza and indigenous communities of Michoacan, which is their home State in Mexico. They also play a popular music style called Canto Nuevo (protest music) which has surfaced as its own type of music, touching upon relevant socio political issues of their country, the environment and the world. The band does not hold back on what their political standpoint is, even with their name Bola Suriana being taken in honor of the great General Emiliano Zapata, who fought beside the poor for land and liberty during the Mexican Revolution of 1910. A big part of the vocation of the band is to rescue, revive and teach the musical traditions of their people, not only through presenting popular music but also through their own compositions. A large part of their work at home in Mexico, is working together with the local school and university system, to bring music out to the younger generations. Their music is full of life and joy, that transcends the barrier of language, and takes you on a journey from pre hispanic Mexico until the modern day mestiza culture, and should their music make you feel like dancing, you're very welcome to do so.
