“M.E.T.S.I; a fisherman’s friend”: A Staged Reading by Mmakgosi Kgabi

As part of the discursive program of the “As We See Us: A Decolonial Salon des Refusés” group exhibition, writer, actress, performer and facilitator Mmakgosi Kgabi will perform a staged reading of a script, “M.E.T.S.I.; a fisherman’s friend” they wrote in 2021.

Metsi means water in Setswana. Grief is like water, and it comes back in waves. Sometimes it washes over us and cleanses us. Sometimes we feel as though we will drown in it. Sometimes we float along with it. The coastline between laughter and tears. The Pandemic brought us as a World into a sense of collective grief, and the subsequent years have been followed by unforeseen losses and gains, gifts and awakenings and the return to self. An ode to joy, a love letter to one and all.
