RCABC Thompson River Rendezvous

Join us for whitewater voyageur paddling on the Thompson River from Savona to Ashcroft. This is a free event co hosted by TRIPS Canoe Club and the Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club. Camping is self organized and local options include Steelhead and Juniper Beach Provincial Parks. The Rock and River Rustic Campground is also nearby in Wallacheen as well as other options in Cache Creek and Ashcroft. You should attend as part of a club crew. Or come with your own tandem or solo outfitted for the river with added floatation and all your own safety gear such as a pfd. A helmet and wet suit is also recommended. You should have white water canoe training and/or experience such as an RCABC Basic Tandem Moving Water canoe course. You must sign a waiver to participate. Contact your local RCABC affiliated club for further details.

Friday is a training day lap meeting at the Savona Boat launch at 10am. Take out is the bridge in Wallacheen. There will be time spent on the lake and beginning section of the river for crews to practice rescues, eddy turns, and ferrying if they are be to whitewater. This will be led by RCABC certified Big Canoe Instructors.

Saturday is a classic run from Savona to Ashcroft. Meeting time is 9am at the Savona boat launch.

Sunday is TBD. Likely the same as Saturday.

Please carpool to avoid congestion at the put in and take outs. Clubs crews are responsible for their own logistics. On the water leadership will be provided by TRIPS and VCKC leaders.

If you don’t know if there is a spot for you in a big canoe. Come with your own solo or tandem so you can still participate. All boats should have added floatation for the river.
