Save Siargao’s Reefs: Mooring Line Fundraiser

Help Us Protect Siargao’s Coral Reefs — One Mooring Line at a Time!
We are Oceantribe Philippines, a local dive center based in Siargao. Every day, we witness firsthand how anchors are damaging the coral reefs that sustain our island’s marine life, economy, and identity.
But there’s a simple, proven solution:
Moorings — permanent underwater anchor points that allow boats to tie off safely without dropping anchors on coral.
⸻
⚠️ What’s the Problem?
Every day, boats drop metal anchors directly onto coral - one anchor can destroy decades of coral growth in seconds.
Repeated damage eventually leads to reef collapse, fewer fish, and declining marine health.
This affects fishermen, surfers, divers, and the entire local economy.
⸻
✅ The Solution: Mooring Lines
We’re launching a community-based conservation effort to install 10 mooring lines around popular reef areas in Catangnan, Siargao — including surf and dive sites. These spots are within Oceantribe’s operating area, allowing us to monitor and maintain each line long-term.
Now we need your help to expand the project before the swell season begins.
⸻
🗓️ The Plan
- Install 10 mooring lines by end of August
- Focus on dive and surf zones where reef traffic is highest
- Use this phase as a pilot project to inform future installations around Siargao and beyond
- Monitor, document, and improve the system with full transparency
⸻
💙 Why This Matters
This isn’t just about coral. It’s about preserving what gives life to the island — ecologically, economically, and spiritually.
Our long-term vision is to:
- Make mooring lines the norm in the Philippines
- Offer training, awareness, and opportunities to local boatmen and dive workers
- Show that even small community efforts can create powerful ripple effects
We believe in giving back to the ocean — not just taking from it.
⸻
🎯 Our Goal
✅ ₱500,000 total = 10 mooring lines
✅ ₱50,000 = 1 mooring line (materials + dive installation)
✅ Oceantribe is matching each full-line donation with labor contribution worth ₱12,500
✅ Donate a half or full mooring line — and we’ll place your logo on the floater!
