For the opening event, after the Summer break, of our new season for the second half of 2025, Montrose Folk Club, and Acoustic Music at Montrose Playhouse, are delighted to present a Concert by Master Guitarist, Singer and Songwriter, Jenn Butterworth, who will be playing in Duo format, with Multi-Instrumentalist, Dan Brown.
Based in Glasgow, Jenn Butterworth is widely accepted as Scotland’s leading exponent of Folk guitar. As well as being a member of the award-winning bands, Kinnaris Quintet and Fiddlers Bid, Jenn also regularly performs in duos, with Bella Hardy and Laura-Beth Salter, and as a Trio, together with Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton.
Her skills as a guitarist may have obscured the fact that Jenn is an outstanding Singer of material from the whole of the Folk spectrum and a talented Songwriter. In the Gig at Montrose Playhouse, Jenn and Dan will play stripped-down versions of the songs from Jenn’s solo Album, ” Her By Design “, which was released earlier this year to rapturous reviews. The Album features songs written by Jenn herself and Sandy Denny, together with a track, entitled ” Jeannie “, whish is a magnificent re-working of the traditional song, ” Anachie Gordon “.
