Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the beaver as our National Animal Symbol! Join Kirby “The Beaver Guy” England to laugh and learn as you stroll beaver trails on Saturday evening, and/or paddle Jarvis Creek on Sunday in a Beaver Brigade to explore beaver-built ecosystems, visit a historic beaver ranch, and slap a paddle on this un-beaver-lievable adventure.

Come along for one or both days.

August 2, 7 p.m. – dark
Hinton Beaver Boardwalk
Difficulty: Saturday – Easy

August 3, 2025, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (approx)
William A. Switzer Provincial Park
Difficulty: Sunday – Moderate due to short portages

On Saturday evening, sink your teeth into some beaver ecology and nature experience as we explore Hinton’s iconic Beaver Boardwalk on a beaver interpretive walk. Experience the magic of the wetlands as beavers become active towards dusk, building dams and lodges while birds and other wildlife settle in for the night. Learn fascinating beaver ecology, engineering skills, and how these creatures help shape Alberta’s landscapes.

On Sunday, switch from walking to paddling along the beautiful Jarvis Creek canoe route in William A. Switzer Provincial Park. Glide through calm waters while scanning for beaver dams, lodges, and wildlife. Midway, stop at the historic beaver ranch, where we’ll discuss conservation history and how beavers have been managed (and misunderstood!) over time.

Perfect for nature enthusiasts, families, paddlers, students, and anyone curious about the busy lives of Alberta’s ecosystem engineers!

Kirby England is a professional biologist, founder and president of You Betula Environmental Inc., and faculty at Lethbridge Polytechnic in the School of Environmental Sciences. A passionate “Beaver Guy,” he specializes in beaver ecology and coexistence, wetland management, and wildlife conservation across Western Canada.
