Raena’s contemporary class is inspired by the Cunningham teachings she developed as a student of Heidi Bunting. Axial strength, spinal motion through flexion, extension, rotation and side flexion while developing foot, ankle, knee and hip conditioning will be referenced. Expect a challenging class on spot, across the floor and through a variety of movement patterns with thoughtful instruction for both the seasoned and novice dancer.
Fascinated with the human body communicating through movement, Raena has built a 25 year career as a dancer, choreographer and movement instructor in Edmonton. She has premiered 18 of her own choreographic works in Alberta, recognized by the Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, training extensively with both Heidi Bunting and Brian Webb in her formative years and now with several of her Edmonton contemporaries. Raena has continued her education in Garuda movement with founder, James D’Silva. Away from the stage, inspired by numerous choreographers and body work philosophies, Raena teaches movement classes in hopes to encourage a sense of curiosity in her students as to how and what makes their body thrive. In addition to her on stage performances and in-studio classes, Raena also now performs and teaches online for students and audiences around the world to participate and view from the comfort of their own homes.
