Jeff Koons in Conversation | Special Event

Join leading contemporary American artist Jeff Koons in conversation with National Gallery Director Dr Nick Mitzevich.

Koons is known globally for his bold works of art which challenge the limitations of fabrication while transforming everyday images and objects.

This conversation coincides with the presentation of Koon’s Balloon Venus Dolni Vestonice (Yellow) 2013–17, on display in Gallery 10. In this work, Koons reimagines an ancient fertility figure as monumental, mirror-polished sculpture, drawing inspiration from ‘Rod with breasts’, a figurine in mammoth ivory from the Upper Palaeolithic period and one of the earliest representations of the human body.

Koons is the first artist to visit the National Gallery as part of the American Friends of the National Gallery of Australia (AFNGA): Visiting Creatives Program. The AFNGA: Visiting Creatives Program builds on four decades of close cultural ties between the National Gallery and the United States of America and is designed to deepen the transformational impact of cross-cultural exchange between the two countries. The program brings influential American arts practitioners to Australia to engage with the national collection and the broader arts community.

Main doors will open at 5.15pm and there will be pop up bar where you can purchase a drink before the event starts at 6pm.
