Intro to Paddling

This course is designed as an introductory course to kayak paddling. The purpose is to introduce new paddlers and beginner paddlers to the fun of kayaking. The course will be held on two days, day one at the Las Vegas NDOW Office and day two at Boulder Beach on Lake Mead. The classroom part of the course will be at the NDOW main office at 3373 Pepper Lane and the paddling portion will be on Lake Mead at Boulder Beach. The mix of classroom instruction and practical application on the water should make for a fun learning experience. The course will cover, general paddlecraft information, paddle strokes and proper technique, required safety gear, hazards and, vessel upkeep and maintenance. The practical portion will focus on the different types of strokes, when to use them, and different rescue techniques. You must attend the class on Friday in order to do the paddling portion on Saturday.
