Krishnamurti’s urgent message that each of us must enter the work of transforming our human consciousness, seems even more prescient and necessary now as we confront a world in crisis, the rise in conflict, the continuing fragmentation of society, the polarization of beliefs and the destruction of our natural world. The work of this Retreat directly encourages us to meet this challenge of creating a new mind.
Krishnamurti made it emphatically clear that all of us human beings must allow ourselves the gift of deep, penetrating exploration into the possibility of unburdening ourselves from conflict, fear, anxiety and confusion, all of which distort our perception and drain our energy.
This 8-day Intensive Retreat, Death and Rebirth Beyond Time, facilitated by Richard and Deborah, is an in-person, shared exploration to discover the nature and limitations of our present-day human consciousness, to renew and refresh our energy, and reignite the spark that brings joy in just being alive.
Krishnamurti describes psychological Death as a transformational leap from the old conditioned, time-based and me-centered consciousness to a new human being free of the past, a stepping out of time into the living timeless present.
Each October Richard and Deborah offer participants the opportunity to cast off psychological burdens that act as a resistance to the dynamic flow of life. When the mind is in psychological resistance, we cannot meet life with freshness and clarity.
As part of our work together, we will penetrate into the human psyche to reveal the hidden patterns of thought that suppress and trap our life energy; finding out for ourselves whatever is no longer vital or essential, that no longer carries the living quality of ‘aliveness’.
During our explorations, Richard and Deborah encourage participants to discover the penetrating awareness of ‘listening and seeing’, an open door to a boundless perceptual dimension that gives rise to ‘insight’, releasing ourselves from the static state of knowing to a fluid living perception.
We are journeying together into the mystery of being alive, illuminating the darker regions of the mind to bring light and clarity, as we uncover the original mind that has never been contaminated by thought, has never been touched by sorrow, self-pity or psychological hurts of any kind.
This Intensive Retreat takes place at the beautiful mountain-ringed Krishnamurti Center Campus, the location of Krishnamurti’s home, nestled in the spiritually alive Ojai Valley in California, the perfect setting for our in-depth explorations.
Please join us, with a small group of like-minded people, for this unique and inspiring week of inquiry into freedom and love, to find out for ourselves if it is possible for a rebirth of the mind to awaken and flower here and now.
Richard Waxberg and Deborah Kerner live in Ojai, California. They moved here in 2004 by invitation to create and begin facilitating the Explorations into Freedom Intensive Retreats for the Krishnamurti Foundation of America. They offer two retreats each year at the Krishnamurti Center in Ojai, in June and October. They have also facilitated retreats in British Columbia, Canada and in Denmark.
They are practicing artists. Deborah is a published poet. Both Richard and Deborah had successful careers in New York City as designers. Richard taught art and design, aesthetics and art history at the prestigious Parsons School of Design.
They left their lives in New York City to begin a new spiritual life, taking up the challenge Krishnamurti proposed of stepping ‘out of time’, stepping out of the ‘me-centered’ paradigm of consciousness. Their journey took them to Ojai, California to study Krishnamurti’s teachings, and to India to teach for a full school year several art and design courses at the Rishi Valley School in rural Andra Pradesh, a school based on Krishnamurti’s teachings located near his birthplace.
During their year of teaching at the Rishi Valley School, Richard and Deborah traveled to 4 Krishnamurti schools throughout India, to participate in dialogues with teachers and staff on what it means for students to experience an education based on Krishnamurti’s teachings.
As part of their earlier spiritual work, they studied Native American shamanic practices with traditional Native American elders before discovering the profound life-changing teachings of J.Krishnamurti. It was during these studies that they learned the importance of gathering, storing and releasing energy as an essential part of spiritually transformational work.
They continue studying and exploring current scientific studies and observations on human consciousness that reflect Krishnamurti’s profound message of transformation, freedom, and love.
