This concert pays homage to two of Vienna’s greatest composers, Mozart and Schubert, through the skilful music of Franz Lachner, like late reverberations from Vienna’s classical era.
Lachner wrote his brilliant Requiem for the celebrations of Mozart’s 100th birthday in 1856. It was lauded as “the most perfect of its kind after Mozart’s Requiem”.
Lachner also orchestrated Schubert’s dramatic cantata Mirjams Siegesgesang as a “labour of love” to honour his good friend Schubert after his early death.
Soloists:
Sporano: Amy Moore & Anja Leszinsky
Alto: Elizabeth Cooper
Tenor: Richard Butler & Tony Suryanthono
Bass: David Hidden
