Learning how to Chant the Psalms

Please join us on Monday, July 28 at 4 pm, in our sanctuary for two hours of learning how to chant the Psalms. Our instructor will be the Rev. Canon David Petrash, who holds a Doctor of Music Arts Degree in organ performance. Father David is the Canon Pastor for the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, and regularly chants all the Psalms in his personal meditations and prayers. He graciously agreed to come out and help us learn how to chant. He will demonstrate and teach us how to chant using Psalms 91 and 123 as examples. Chanting is something we want to add to our services on special occasions.

The Psalms were originally intended to be sung. Jesus Christ sang the Psalms. Chanting allows for a deeper engagement with the text, fosters memorization, and enhances the emotional impact of the words.

We are inviting other Episcopal churches in rural NE Texas and the Northeast Texas Choral Society to join us in this learning experience. Everyone is welcome. Please join us on July 28.
