Linda Nance will share information describing her journey to learn more about the 1904 World’s Fair, and her contribution to the most recent renovation to the 1904 World’s Fair exhibit at the Missouri History Museum.
She will speak candidly about her perspective on racial disparities of 1904, advertisements announcing the Fair, and the activities of the Colored Women’s Clubs and their role in calling for a boycott of the Fair. Her comments will illuminate the actions and dynamics of redirecting the activity of a national biennial convention in a tumultuous time, and highlight the world’s reaction to it.
Linda Nance is the Founding President of the Annie Malone Historical Society. She tells audiences about the leadership, philanthropy, and economic influence of Annie M. Turnbo Pope Malone, the trail-blazing icon of the African-American hair care and beauty industry. Linda is the current National Historian for the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Inc. She is a talented vocalist, capable pianist, and aspiring harpist. She recently authored a chapter in the book, “The Wonder and Complexity of the 1904 World’s Fair“, a Missouri Historical Society Press book and INDE Silver Medal award winner.
