Language & Liberation: A Community Conversation

Join us at the Cape Verdean Veterans Memorial Hall for an evening conversation about the Cape Verdean Crioulu/Kriolu Language and its relationship to cultural liberation! Come for a dynamic presentation by linguist Dr. Donaldo Macedo and engaging activities with Djofa Tavares (aka Scribin' Sista), head of the Kriolu Basics project, and to enjoy conversation -- and some light bites -- in community!
This is the inaugural event of the Cabo Verdean Heritage Month Coalition, which seeks to honor and celebrate the rich legacy of tradition, resilience, and achievement of the Cabo Verdean community in New Bedford, and to further historical and cultural knowledge of Cabo Verde and its diasporas through education and various forms of artistic and literary expression. At this event, we will commemorate and close out July as the first ever Cabo Verdean Heritage Month in New Bedford!
We are grateful to the support of New Bedford Creative, without which this event would not be possible.
