Walter Murch, who won an Academy Award for Best Sound for APOCALYPSE NOW (playing at ActOne), will discuss with Nick Jones his work in Francis Ford Coppola’s epic, his innovative and highly influential use of 5.1 surround sound -a new technology at that time- and the tumultuous production of what is considered one of the best films of all times.
Born July 12, 1943, Walter Murch is an American film editor, director, writer and sound designer. His work includes THX 1138, Apocalypse Now, The Godfather trilogy, American Graffiti, The Conversation, Ghost, The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
He is the author of the popular book on film editing, In the Blink of an Eye, and famed movie critic Roger Ebert called him “the most respected film editor and sound designer in modern cinema”. For his work on Apocalypse Now, Walter Murch was the first person to receive a credit as “Sound Designer.”
