Gettysburg Eddie: The Story of Edward S. Plank

Lawrence Knorr, Ph.D., presents his book Gettysburg Eddie, about the life and accomplishments of Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank. Dr. Knorr covers the family history before Eddie’s birth, his youth and townball exploits, his days at Gettysburg College, and his rapid ascent to the major leagues with Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics in 1901. Knorr then highlights Plank’s Major League career, including humorous moments and World Series appearances. The lecture closes with details about Plank’s very short retirement before his untimely passing and a bit about how Plank is remembered. Q&A and a book signing will follow.
