We're very excited to be putting on the Ravenshoe Folk n Soul Sessions, happening on Saturday the 23rd August at 6pm.

Karl S Williams and Sally Wiggins

Karl S. Williams and Sally Wiggins make music that is steeped in delta blues, gospel and old-time folk, with poetic sensibilities that call to mind the classic singer-songwriters of yesteryear. With a voice that sounds about a thousand years old Karl moves between guitar, piano and banjo while Sally holds it down on the kit with mesmerising rhythms drawn from her wealth of jazz and Afro influences. Together they create music which veers effortlessly from acoustic intimacy to fuzzed out garage blues.

They have recently recorded a batch of new material at MONA’s Frying Pan Studios which is centred around Sally’s mesmeric playing and incorporates elements of fife and drum music and New Orleans clave rhythms. Now they’re taking to the road to share these songs ahead of their release later in the year.

Expect a show which ranges from acoustic intimacy and hypnotic spirituals to rollicking piano blues and beyond.

Tim Woodz

Like a Jazz crooning, folk rocker at an Aussie BBQ, Tim Woodz makes up songs with interesting stories. His music is uplifting, clever and nostalgic which has landed him in the folk festival circuit since 2012 and touring with iconic performer Tex Perkins.

Tim grew up in Gippsland Victoria, being inspired by his parents who’d perform in the local folk club, Tim started creating punk inspired folk songs or perhaps the other way around as teenager, which led him to write in a lyrically naive style and produced nostalgic and very clever songs about trees, possums, laundromats and everything in between. Along with some amazingly heartfelt songs for his Daughter.

Tim plays Acoustic Guitar, Banjo and Harmonica, with a style to make your feet tap, and your cheeks hurt from laughing.

Ben Wilson

Honest authentic folk music with a little old timey flavour. Wilson’s quirky original songs are an exploration of Americana styles with an Aussie twang.

Born and raised on chalky southern shores of England. Ben Wilson started playing music from an early age. After relocating to Lismore NSW at the age of 20, Ben founded folk group The Button Collective who became well known in QLD and NSW for their rambunctious live sets. After 10 years of touring, recording and releasing original material both with The Button Collective and as a solo artist, Wilson relocated to Far North Qld in 2020 where he continues to write and record his music.

Wilson’s music harks back to a simpler time, his style is nostalgic, authentic and organic.
Quirky originals and historic traditional tunes are accompanied by Finger-style guitar, claw hammer banjo, blues harmonica and a rich baritone voice.
