Julia Borg is a contemporary artist based in Malta, whose creative journey began in Germany, where she was born to Russian parents. Her life — and art — were profoundly transformed by her first visit to Malta, a Mediterranean oasis that reshaped her outlook and destiny. Today, she resides on the island with her young family, continuously inspired by its vibrant colours, luminous light, and coastal energy.
Initially, Julia pursued a career in engineering and interior design, yet her passion for art persisted. Having studied at an art studio as a child, she later continued with private tutors. In 2013, she formally embraced art as a profession, allowing years of creative yearning to evolve into her vocation.
Julia’s work aims to evoke "joy for the eyes" through expressive abstract techniques. Influenced by Impressionist masters, she incorporates bold palettes and textured brushwork into her signature “mosaic on canvas” style, offering a fresh, contemporary perspective on abstract composition. Her vibrant canvases invite viewers to uncover personal narratives, guided by harmonious colour dances and layered forms.
Buoyed by enthusiastic acclaim from private clients, Julia now proudly identifies as a professional artist. She specialises in bespoke commissions and guides her own curated collections. Her works have found homes in private collections across Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, and Australia.
As Julia herself eloquently shares,
“True painting, akin to making love, enables the articulation of emotions beyond the confines of words. It is in these very emotions that it transcends into genuine art. It is imperative to undertake this process with the soul and from the heart.”
