Ancient Marks & Enduring Traditions Native American Tattoo

Join us for a live demonstration of traditional Indigenous tattooing— tools, techniques and symbolism, during the Abenaki at the Trading Post weekend! Don’t miss this opportunity to see a practice older than the fort itself, carried forward with pride and purpose. Presented by Dylan and Andrew Smith.

Dylan and Andrew Smith grew up in the eastern woodland culture in New England and lower New York with family connections to multiple nations in the US and Canada. “Tattooing is traditional to native peoples everywhere and is seen historically in the Eastern woodlands, holding significant spiritual, community and personal meaning”. It is one of the many traditional art forms that they honor, practice and teach.

Explore the meanings behind the marks—symbols of identity, family, protection, and spiritual strength. This is more than body art; it’s living history.

Program is included with admission to the Fort at No 4.
