Trip Leader: Brad Stein (773) 213-1808
Activity Level: Moderate, Walk ~3 miles (crushed-gravel trails)
Come join us on Sunday, July 27 for a morning walk at Pine Dunes Forest Preserve. The outing is co-led by Matt Tobin and Brad Stein, both expert birders and experienced walk leaders. Pine Dunes features four boardwalks and several scenic overlooks. There is a mix of prairie, savanna and oak-hickory woodland. The standout at Pine Dunes is the extensive wetland communities, including marshes and sedge meadows. These habitats support a variety of breeding birds including: Wood Ducks, Pied-billed Grebes, Tree Swallows, and Eastern Bluebirds, along with some less common species like the Sedge Wren.
We’ll be treated to spectacular native plant species along the trail including Wild Bergamot, Rattlesnake Master, multiple varieties of Milkweed and Coneflowers, fragrant Elderberry and many more.
Specific details about the walk and the Pine Dunes parking location are available through the registration link below:
